Lampre
Tour de Suisse - Cunego Leads
Important test for Damiano Cunego in view of the upcoming Tour de France 2008.
The Italian cyclist will be the Lampre's captain in Tour de Suisse (14-22 June):
together with Cunego there will be Alessandro Ballan, Matteo Bono, David Loosli,
Marco Marzano, Massimiliano Mori, Danilo Napolitano and Paolo Tiralongo.
Sport director Piovani will have the support of: doctor Andreazzoli,
mechanics Bortoluzzo, Bozzolo and Pengo and masseurs Cavalleri, Della Torre,
Gradi and Inselvini.
"Tour de Suisse will be a good race for testing the condition in view of Tour
de France" Piovani explained - "Cunego will
have this aim: with him there will be most part of the team that will take part
in Tour de France. It will be interesting to see Ballan's condition and
Napolitano's form for the sprints".

Team CSC/Saxo Bank - Tour de Suisse
The last of the big stage races ahead of Tour de France takes place on Saturday,
when the 72nd edition of Tour de Suisse begins in Langnau in the central part of
Switzerland.
"Of course this is first and foremost the final chance for our guys to tune
up their form ahead of Tour de France. We need to try and test them without
actually going for the overall result. Mostly it will be individual tests in the
various stages, but if a chance comes along to grab a victory we'll go for it of
course," says Team CSC Saxo Bank sports director Kim
Andersen about the race.

The new jersey of the CSC/Saxo Bank squad
There is no prologue this year so Fabian Cancellara won't get the chance to
repeat his victory from Olten last year. Cancellara had the Yellow Jersey for
two days and following that Fränk Schleck wore it for two days after winning the
third stage.
Fränk Schleck was best for Team CSC Saxo Bank in seventh place last year
after having finished sixth and fourth the two previous years. Those are the
best overall results for the team in the race so far. Besides the two victories
last year Linus Gerdemann also won a stage in 2005.
"I'm not supposed to be in the same shape for this year's Tour de Suisse as I
was last year, because it would be hard to maintain it towards Tour de France.
But that doesn't mean that I won't do well. It's a special race in beautiful
surroundings, good roads, a few hills well suited for me and on the whole it's a
great race which I enjoy a lot," says Fränk Schleck,
who also has younger brother Andy with him.
"We're both happy with our form after Tour de Luxembourg. Over the last few
days we've been training a lot in the mountains with Kim Andersen in Luxembourg
and I'm exactly where I wanna be right now. Tour de Suisse will give me that
last preparation I need for my first Tour de France," says
Andy Schleck.
The younger of the Schleck brothers had a great birthday earlier in the week
even though he spent it in training along with most of his other teammates doing
Tour de Suisse. "My birthday was this Tuesday and we were training in the
mountains. At one point, when we were taking a break, Bjarne Riis called Kim,
who put him on the speakers so we all got the news about the Saxo Bank
sponsorship at the same time. That was a great birthday gift," smiles Andy
Schleck.

Halfords Cycling Team Winning Weekend
Rob Hayles at BrentwoodTeam Halfords Bikehut demonstrated their strength in
depth this weekend with four podium places in four events, including victory for
Sharon Laws in the Women's National 25 mile Time Trial Championship.
And in a hectic weekend of city centre closed circuit racing Rob Hayles came
second in both the Smithfield Nocturne and Brentwood criteriums, while team mate
Katie Colclough was also second in the women's race at Brentwood.
Laws followed in the 2006 footsteps of World Track Champion Rebecca Romero by
winning the National Championship during her individual time trialling debut.
Previously Laws had only ridden a team time trial in the Tour de l'Aude and a
short 3 km prologue in the Cheshire Classic. "This was my first proper attempt
at time trial" explained Laws. "I've been doing some local races in Abergavenny
but I'm still pretty new to this."
Laws was not the only member of the squad to be pleased with their
performance on the Sawtry course in Cambridgeshire. Emma Trott recorded a
personal best to finish under the hour in sixth place, while Jess Allen was
thirteenth.
Hayles' two solid seconds mean that he now lies in second place overall in
the National Criterium Series, where riders race for one hour and five laps of a
closed 1 km circuit.
At the Smithfield Nocturne in Central London on Saturday night only Geraint
Thomas, the youngest rider ever to have completed the Tour de France and
recently returned from a successful Giro d'Italia, could out sprint the silver
medallist from the Athens Olympics after the pair had been part of a five man
breakaway for more than half the race. Team mate Tom Southam led home the
chasers in sixth place.
The next day Hayles' legs had recovered enough to solo across to lone
breakaway leader Dean Downing of Rapha Condor Recycling during the Brentwood
criterium in Essex, although he was unable to match a second attack from Downing
which saw him take victory by 28 seconds.
Hayles was also on hand to see team mate Katie Colclough take second in the
women's race behind winner Alex Greenfield of Pinarello. Greenfield had been
attacking throughout the race and when she finally got away only Colclough was
able to respond, chasing her down over the closing laps and finishing just 8
seconds behind.
Halfords Bikehut team manger Julian Winn was pleased with his squad's
results. "A National Championship and three seconds are not a bad weekend's
work. We lost two of those races by less than 10 seconds, so they were close;
these results show we are course for success and it's only a matter of time
before we win."
The Halfords Bikehut team have a busy few weeks ahead. Team leader Nicole
Cooke rides the Grand Boucle, or Women's Tour de France, in a composite Swift
Racing - Great Britain team, while the rest of the squad stay at home for the
Abergavenny Festival of Cycling. They will come together for the National Road
Race Championships and Ras de Cymru before returning to Europe for the Tour de
Bretagne.
Annual Paolo Bettini Day
Discovering the World Champion’s home territory in Bibbona
Last Saturday and Sunday was the return of “Bettini Day”. A unique occasion to experience the thrill of
being up close and personal with Paolo Bettini, while discovering the mystique
of his home territory and tasting wine and gourmet delights in the Tuscan
tradition. The traditional event is held one week after the Giro d'Italia finis
with Saturday a group training ride with Paolo with opportunities to discuss
training with the world champion.

Kids get to play with Paolo Bettini
Sunday morning was start of the real “Bettini Day”, with a fun and
easy, non competitive bike ride open to everybody, interspersed with music and
entertainment in the company of Paolo Bettini. Everyone who participates in the
event received a free commemorative t-shirt. As part of the Club Paolo
Bettini tradition, and in collaboration with the Turistic Bibbona Company, there
was a rich buffet on offer to taste the wine, local products and all the
delicacies of typical Bibbona cuisine. Sunday afternoon was dedicated to the
younger crowd present with a series of games and bicycle par-courses designed
specifically for aspiring little bike aces. 2 fantastic Specialized kids’
bicycles and many other surprises were offered as prizes in a drawing. The
World Champion was also on hand for a photo op and autograph session with all
his fans, young and old. For information to go next year: www.bibbonaturismo.it
Slipstream/Chipotle
Le Tour & "le Burrito"
Chipotle Mexican Grill today announced that it will offer a new, limited time
burrito in honor of American cycling team, Slipstream-Chipotle, which will
compete in the Tour de France in July. Called “Le Burrito,” it is made to meet
the dietary needs of world-class athletes and will be featured in all Chipotle
restaurants nationwide throughout the Tour de France, which runs from July 5
through July 27.
“We have sponsored team Slipstream-Chipotle for three years because we share
their belief in doing things the right way,” said Steve Ells, founder, chairman
and CEO of Chipotle. “To the team, that means working to eliminate drugs and
doping from professional cycling. To Chipotle, it means eliminating the use of
antibiotics, hormones and other drugs from livestock farming. That is one of the
ways we are changing the way the world thinks about and eats fast food.”
Le Burrito is a Chipotle burrito filled with naturally raised chicken (from
birds that are raised in a humane way, never given antibiotics or added
hormones, and fed a pure vegetarian diet), black beans, cilantro lime rice, mild
tomato salsa, and freshly made guacamole. This combination provides an
energy-boosting ratio of 65 percent carbohydrates, 25 percent fat, and 15
percent protein that allows cyclists to perform at their best while racing.
“Professional cycling is incredibly grueling, and riders need to fuel their
bodies with good, whole foods that will sustain them through their hours on the
bike,” said Jonathan Vaughters, directeur sportif at Slipstream-Chipotle. “The
combination of ingredients in ‘Le Burrito’ is an important part of what these
riders eat to keep them performing at the highest levels.”
Le Burrito will be available at all Chipotle restaurants throughout the Tour
de France. To find a restaurant near you, visit

New England Raceweek
Four states, 8 races, one week slated for
June 28th – July 6th
Steeped in history and with its hilly, winding stone-lined roads and historic
town centers, can New England become the epicenter of American cycling? Five New
England race promoters hope so.
Race promoters from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New
Hampshire have formed an association to co-promote five races over one week,
June 28th – July 6th. George Gantz, president of Fitchburg Cycling Club, which
puts on the venerable Fitchburg Longsjo Classic, started talking about the idea
a couple of years ago.
“It just made sense for us to work together. By coordinating our race
schedules it hopefully makes it easier and more economical for teams and riders
to come to New England, while generating more local interest and excitement in
the sport of cycling,” commented Gantz. “We have also put up for grabs omnium
series points for pro men and women and an award for anyone that completes all
8-days of racing, regardless of their placing.”
The week starts fittingly with a kids-only race in Wilmington, Massachusetts,
hosted by NEBC on the morning of June 28th, but then moves into full swing with
the Cox Charities Cycling Classic in the heart of downtown Providence, RI. It is
a one-mile criterium that includes Masters 35+/45+, 23 miles; Category 2/3, 28
miles and Men Pro/1, 50 miles. Race Director Gary Dalton predicts a great
turnout for this national NRC event and the fantastic Water Fire show which
follows.
The very next day, June 29th, a new venue has been added, the Boloco
Heartbreak Hill Grand Prix, a circuit race where cyclists will race up the
Boston Marathon’s infamous “Heartbreak Hill,” in Newton, MA. Race Director J.
Alain Ferry expects more than 1,400 competitors for this fundraiser for the
Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Racing shifts to Connecticut on June 30th with a Twilight Criterium, which
will run on a half-mile race track in Thompson, Connecticut. Hosted by Minuteman
Road Club, the event will benefit Cystic Fibrosis research.
On July 1st, racers head to the Granite state to ride in the Exeter
Criterium, the 26th annual, in historic and picturesque downtown Exeter, NH, a
fund-raiser for the Barrows/Bogart/Bemis Cycling Scholarship at the University
of New Hampshire. Cheering crowds line the roads for the one-hour evening races
for Men and Women Pro/1/2/3.
And racing heads back to Massachusetts with the grand daddy of them all, the
Fitchburg Longsjo Classic. Celebrating its 49th year, the four-day stage race
includes eight separate categories and over $51,000 in prize money. Over the
four days the Pro Men cyclists test themselves on a 6.2-mile time trial, a
78-mile circuit race and a 104-mile road race, finishing with a 50-mile
criterium before cheering crowds in the heart of historic Fitchburg, MA.
The Fitchburg Longsjo Classic serves as a legacy for the history of cycling
and the memory of Art Longsjo, a Fitchburg native and the first American to
compete in the winter and summer Olympics in the same year, and as a fundraiser
for local youth fitness programs including the Boys and Girls Club and for its
charity partner, the Pan Mass Challenge, benefiting the Dana Farber Cancer
Center.

Hybrid electric-assist bike company looks to build its growing dealer network
OHM Cycles Ltd., an innovative maker of hybrid electric-assist bicycles,
announced today plans to expand its nationwide network of authorized dealerships
in 2008, reports Michael DeVisser, president and founder of OHM Cycles.
"We anticipate significant sales growth in 2008 and are seeking quality
dealer partners across Canada and the US," DeVisser said. "Interest in our bikes

The technology incorporates a simple control console, microchip processor,

power distribution during pedaling – the more effort the rider exerts, the more
boost the electric motor provides. They can travel up to 100 miles on a single
charge and require virtually no maintenance.
Because of their versatility, the OHM bikes have attracted a diverse consumer
base that includes urban commuters and recreational riders. Target commercial
markets include resorts, tour operators, rental applications, colleges and
universities, warehousing facilities and police/security departments.
OHM Cycles 2008 product line-up includes four models: the Urban XU450 and

Kemco Partners with Giant Light Metal
Kemco Group International has partnered with Kunshan Giant Light Metal
Technology Co., Ltd. (GLM) to produce Vuelta-branded wheels for the Asian and
global bicycle marketplaces. Wheels are being manufactured in a new Shanghai
factory under Vuelta China, as the newly-created joint venture is called by the
California-based sales and marketing company and GLM, which is a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Giant Global Group of Taiwan.
The first product will be the Zero-Lite by Vuelta entry-level wheel line at
the end of July, for the OE market on bikes retailing under USD $500.
"Bicycles selling at this price point all tend to look alike," said Kemco
Vice President Tom Curran. "We are offering quality wheels with our patented
two-left/two-right spoke lacing pattern, which will make any bike stand apart
from the rest of the crowd. Zero-Lite by Vuelta wheels are a value-added product
that will really attract consumers to dealers."
Besides Zero-Lite by Vuelta, high-end Vuelta wheels for the aftermarket will
continue to be manufactured in a state-of-the-art facility in Taiwan. Curran
explained that Vuelta wheels will be marketed at competitive price points to
draw consumers looking for a distinctive product with highly desirable product
features and performance. "Whether the consumer is at the entry level or they're
a serious racer, there will be a Vuelta wheel that the IBD can sell to them,"
said Curran.
Curran also noted that Kemco is expanding its Vuelta product line with new
cranks, chains, saddles and disc brakes. These products, as well as the wheels,
will be displayed at Interbike in Las Vegas September 24-26.
"The new Vuelta products will be for both OE and the aftermarket," explained
Curran, who will be at Las Vegas to show off the new items. "They will offer a
new choices for those looking for outstanding product design and features at
exceptional value."
The new saddles, chain and cranks have already been extensively tested and
approved by OE customers and are already shipping, said Curran. Other items will
make their debut at Interbike, "where we're going to have lots of fun showing
our distributors and dealers products that will make them lots of money." For
