Tour de Slovenia Stages

The Dirka po Sloveniji (Cycling Tour of Slovenia), one of the most important
sport events (and the most important when it comes to bike racing) in this
little EU nation that gained independence in the days of 1991, is back for 2008.
Riders from sixteen different (Continental and National) teams - two of
which are ProTour: Liquigas and Lampre will be gracing Slovenian roads from
Wednesday, June 11th thru Saturday, June 14th. The four-stage contest, spanning
over a cumulative distance of 633 km., is set to kick off in Ljubljana, and
finish - as usual - in Slovenia's "cycling capital city" Novo Mesto after
winding through all regions of this country.
The race's team competition also got a punch up with top Pro Continental
squads at the recent Giro d'Italia: LPR Brakes/Ballan, Serramenti PVC/Diquigiovanni
and the strong squads of Acqua Sapone and NGC Medical/OTC Industria.
The "Dirka" will also represent an excellent opportunity to promote Slovenia
on the tourist side of the matter.
