7th GP Triberg- Schwarzwald

Gerolsteiner dominated the 7th GP Triberg - Schwarzwald with no less then five riders in the top 10. Swiss youngster Mathias Frank won ahead of Marco Pinotti and Stefan Schumacher.

The GP Triberg-Schwarzwald is a very tough race in Germany. On the list of past winners in this very "young" race we see Marcus Fothen, Fabian Wegmann and Jure Golcer. The first edition of the race was in 2002 when Dane Jörgen Bo Petersen won.

This year's race was 137,7 km long in distance and the riders had to do six laps with lots of climbing. From the beginning Gerolsteiner was controlling the race. The first attack of the day came from Gerolsteiner rider Sven Krauss. But he was quickly caught again.

In the second lap of the race the decisive break got away with among others top class riders like Marco Pinotti, Stefan Schumacher, Niklas Axelsson, Oliver Zaugg and youngster Mathias Frank. In the break Gerolsteiner was dominating with the most riders up there.

At the start of the final lap Swiss youngster Mathias Frank attacked and the others were not able to chase Frank down with his team mates chasing down the riders who tried to bridge across. For Frank, who is a first year's professional, it's his first victory as a professional.

Marco Pinotti, winner of the final time-trial in the 2008 Giro d'Italia, won the sprint of the chasing group for second 1.14 down on Frank. Stefan Schumacher, the winner of the 2007 Amstel Gold Race, completed the podium.

Pinotti was very happy as the Italian won the mountains prize as well next to his second place in the race. "Today I really did a good race. Second in the race and first in the mountains prize. I have been closed by Gerolsteiner, being with Schumacher after the last climb, but we were caught. Then I defeated him in the uphill sprint. Tomorrow I will race in Gippingen (GP Kanton Aargau)"
