From December 27 to 30th Dutch Track riders gathered together for the
National
Track Championships in Sportpaleis Alkmaar to decide who gained the honor of
wearing the national jerseys in 2008. The riders, (both men and women) competed for 32 titles in several disciplines and categories (Novice,
Juniors, U23 and Elite).

All the top class riders took the start in the several disciplines except
Danny Stam and Robert Slippens. The famous six day couple is competing in the
Six Day race of Zürich. Unfortunately Slippens had to abandon due to sickness.
The rest of the line-up was excellent, with world class riders as Theo Bos, Teun
Mulder, Peter Schep, Yvonne Hijgenaar, Marlijn Binnendijk, Jens Mouris, Levi
Heimans, Tim Veldt, Willy Kanis and Marianne Vos.

Vos made her debut on the track a few weeks ago in Beijing during the World
Cup and this week made her debut in the Dutch Championship. In China she did
very well with winning the Scratch and the points race; not bad for for a
debutante appearance.

The big winners of the week with the Elites were the popular world champion
sprinter Theo Bos, and Marianne Vos, Niki
Terpstra and Willy Kanis. These four riders won two national titles each. Bos

the scratch and the Madison, and Kanis the keirin and sprint.
The big winners in the other categories were Michael Vingerling (Juniors) with six titles (sprint,
pursuit, Points race, 1 km time trial, Madison and scratch) and Amy Pieters
(Junior Women) with four titles (Keirin, points race and 500 meter time trial).
