Kitzbuheler Horn & Tour of Austria Report Index.
The 59th edition of the Austrian tour put the spotlight on a new generation
of riders like the 20-year-old Ciolek, 21-year-old stage winner Gianni Meersman,
and obviously also young Rohregger aged 23, in the spotlight with "veterans"
like Fabio Baldato (39 and still rocking in the sprints) and Glomser, as much as
José Rujano once more disappointed all those hungry to see him back to ancient
form; the days of 2004 and 2005 are gone for the (former?) mountain goat from
the Venezuelan Andes. The performance of Oscar Sevilla, sixth place finisher on
the GC, wasn't as good as expected either.

Stage 3: Finish Kitzbuheler Horn
"It's like a Hollywood movie, it's a dream come true. I have been
working hard for this day all year long, and today I've won on my favourite
mountain, in my homeland". And who can blame Thomas Rohregger for talking like
this in after-stage interviews? Nobody, if we consider that Tyrol's own
Rohregger got a sensational solo victory on Tyrol's own top mountain, the
Kitzbüheler Horn, in Tuesday's stage three - which started at Salzburg and
covered 180 kilometres - and at the same time captured the yellow jersey. The
Elk House Simplon team rider came across the line eighteen seconds clear of
teammate/compatriot/2006-stage-winner Christian Pfannberger, with the Slovenian
prospect Jure Golcer (Tenax) snatching third at 47 sec.
