Linda Villumsen (T-Mobile) won the 6th stage in the Tour de L’Aude. In the stage from Rieux Minervois to Rieux Minervois over the 113 km she was the fastest in a sprint with two ahead of Joane Kiesanowski. Judith Arndt (T-Mobile) remains in the lead.

The stage was animated by a break of 6 containing Linda Villumsen (T-Mobile), Joanne Kiesanowski (Raleigh), Loes Gunnewijk (Team Flexpoint), Svetlana Boubnenkova (Fenixs), Julia Martisova (FRW) and Marlen Johrend (Germany).

In the final kilmeters Villumsen and Kiesanowski rode away from the 4 others. Villumsen outsprinted Kiesanowski for the stage win. The remains of the break followed at 9 seconds led home by Loes Gunnewijk leading  3rd for the final podium step, and  Bubnenkova 4th, Martisova 5th and Johrend 6th.

The bunch rolled in at 2.33 after Villumsen, led by Olga Slyusareva of Russia (Team Fenixs) for seventh place.

Judith Arndt (T-Mobile) continues to hold the yellow jersey, with only minor changes in the GC standings as a result of Stage 6. Best placed North American rider on the G.C. is two time winner Amber Neben of Flexpoint just over 2 minutes down. Ambers Flexpoint team mate Susanne Ljungskog of Sweden is second in the G.C.

Stage 7 will be a 104 kilometer stage from Arques to Rennes Les Bains. It features two tough climbs, the most notable is the 731 meter high Col de la Fage.

Team Express.com Report
Stage six of the tour was based in Rieux Minervois and was a typical Tour de l'Aude race day with the course being hard, fast and buffeted by strong crosswinds. Providing some relief from yesterday the route was relatively flat but included a number of technical sections where the riders entered the small villages that dot 113km the course.

Team expresscopy.com started strong with Amanda Shaw, Erinne Willock and Meshy Holt all taking turns to attack off the front. "We were really trying to make things happen", said Amanda, "but as soon as the crosswinds hit it started to string everyone out and it was hard to put something together".

With 30km to go three girls went off the front, Linda Villumsen Serup (T-Mobile,), Joanne Kiesanowski (Raleigh Lifeforce) and Loes Gunnewijk (Flexpoint), and with no one in the peloton prepared to commit to bridging the gap, the three placed first, second and third respectively.

With everyone exhausted after the race and heading back to their chalets Anne and Meshy discuss the race and admit that they expect to return to the North America a lot stronger than when they left. "A day like today is really going to pay off," nods Anne wisely. Meshy looks at her blankly before replying, "it bloody well better!". They laugh together momentarily and then the focus moves to tomorrows race.
