21st Tour of the Gila - Women's Stage 5
Webcor dominates at Gila. Mara Abbot and Rachel Heal top the podium with Colavita/Sutter Home's Dotsie Bausch third. TIBCO's Marisa Asplund solos to victory in Gila Monster.

TIBCO's Marisa Asplund won the final Gila Monster stage of the Tour of the Gila in an attack to the finish with Webcor's Amber Rais  the closest rider at 1:29. Missy Holt of Team Expresscopy.com finished close on Rais' heels rolling in 8 seconds after. TIBCO's Marisa Asplund

Webcor finished the race with Mara Abbot and Brit Rachel Heal on the two top steps of the podium separated by 25 seconds and Colavita/Sutter Home's Dotsie Bausch in third. Webcor also won team trophy by a solid margin over Cheerwine and Colavita/Sutter Home.

For a change wind did not feature too strongly but the temperature dropped dramatically in the last stage of the Tour of the Gila. Heading out at 8.30am for the 73miles of the Gila Monster Road Race Team expresscopy.com was clearly visible in their bright yellow arm warmers and booties.

The first eight miles Webcor sat at the front and the peleton cruised. Heading into the first climb three Tibco riders attacked off the front and taking a Colavita rider, two from Cheerwine, Meshy Holt (Team expresscopy.com) and a Webcor rider with them. With Tibco working on the front the break gained three minutes on the peleton changing the overall GC rankings and placing the GC leaders in the break. The threat to the change in GC rankings encouraged Webcor and Colavita to move to the front of the peleton and start working to reduce the breaks lead to a controllable time.

Back in the break Tibco was still pulling and engineered a break for Marisa Asplund who disappeared on the hill and went on the to win the stage about a minute and a half up on second place. Brooke Ourada (Cheerwine) upped the pace in the break in an attempt to increase the distance between the peleton and move up in the GC tiring at the end Ourada had to be content with fifth place. In second place was Amber Rais (Webcor) followed by Meshy Holt (Team expresscopy.com) in third and Sarah Tillotson (Colavita/Sutter Home) fourth.

The G.C. remained unchanged from yesterdays.
