Giro d'Italia - Caisse d'Epargne Team Announcement
José Luis Jaimerena fields a young team with 5 riders making their Grand Tour
Debut.
Caisse d'Epargne Squad for the 2007 Giro
José
Luis Jaimerena, team manager of the Team Caisse d’Epargne in the Giro d’Italia,
analyzes as follows which the possibilities of the team are in the Italian stage
race:
“The first week of the Giro is relatively easy, even if there could be
important gaps by the end of stage 4, Salerno-Montevergine di Mercogliano.
The second part part of the race is much more difficult, with three or four
mountain stages which will be very hard ones. Our objective is to win a stage
and to do well in the overall ranking.
Grand Tour Debut for Five Riders
Our team will start from Sardinia with five riders who will take part
in their first major tour: Eric Berthou, Alberto Losada, Alexei Markov, Mathieu
Perget and José Joaquín Rojas. A rather inexperienced team, but with talented
riders able to do well in every kind of stage.
The Pursuit for Stage Wins in Sprints and Mountains
José Joaquín Rojas and Alexei Markov will take part in the
sprints while David Arroyo and Alberto Losada can do very well in the mountain
stages. The other riders who form the team will look for opportunities to go
with some breakaways.”
