23rd Redlands Bicycle Classic Prologue Men's
Oh Canada!!
Svein Tuft puts a Canadian spin on the prologue, rocking the spring time clock.
Svein Tuft of Symmetrics Cycling and winner of the recent Tour of Cuba
continued his winning ways this morning by taking the opening prologue at
Redlands today, earning both the red and yellow jerseys with his 9:29.16 finish
besting Ben Jacques-Maynes of (Priority Health/Bissel) and Cesar Grajales of the
Jittery Joe's the Bean Team climber.
The tough 5 kilometer course today was a mostly uphill affair with an 8%
grade.

“The whole time I thought I was wicked slow,” said Tuft. “The climb [on the
course] is so steep you have to conserve. You can’t go out too fast. When I came
across the finish, I knew it was a good ride.”

Benjamin Jacques-Maynes stormed right behind with a second place finish
of 9:33.91 “I went out and road as hard as I could,” said Jacques-Maynes. “I feel great and know this
is a great start for pushing me into the ride tomorrow with the rest of the
Priority Health Team.”

The
incomparable Scott Moninger of BMC Racing a tow time winner at Redlands (the
first victory in 1989) finished only 5 seconds after Grajales... Scott has stood
on the podium of the Redlands race no less than five times in his career.

Tomorrow the men face Redlands Ford Road Race a 156.6 km test
from Redlands to Oak Glen while the women's race will be a approximately 115.2
km starting in Perris and finishing in the same location as the men's race: Oak
Glen.

About the Redlands Bicycle Classic
The Redlands Bicycle Classic is an all-volunteer organization, including the
race directors. The 23rd Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic is scheduled for March
22–25, 2007. The event was founded in 1985 by a community group, chaired by
then-Mayor Carole Beswick, to promote awareness of downtown Redlands. Since that
time, professional cyclists from around the world have been racing in this
event, which is centered around the city of Redlands, California. The Redlands
Bicycle Classic is on the United States Cycling Federation (USCF) National
Racing Calendar (NRC).
