Rite Aid Pro Cycling Squad 2007
Sprinter
Alejandro Barrajo formerly of Miche and 2006 South American Road Champion joins
the North American Squad. Team bolstered with 8 new members of vets and Young
Gun Brad Viera.
Rite Aid Pro Cycling Stacked For 2007
The Rite Aid Pro Cycling team, whose title sponsor supports the team for a
second season, is pleased to announce its 2007 roster. Team Director Jon Wirsing
has added eight new riders in an effort to build a team capable of challenging
in any of the major North American races in 2007.
The new signings to the team should produce a well-rounded attack. Coming
from Colavita is Sebastian Alexander, a very fast finisher with a great deal of
international experience. He was the 2006 Track Rider of the Year at the Lehigh
Valley Velodrome. Also from Colavita is Ian Ayers. The team will count on Ian
and two other new riders, Jake Rytlewski from Priority Health and Mike Norton
from NERAC/Outdoorlights.com, in stage races and tough one day races.
From Target Training, Bill Elliston, a former Navigators rider and a strong
leader on the road, Stephan Kincaid, Meredith Group, and Clayton Barrows,
Agisko-Dart-Cycling.tv will help complete the team’s aggressive style, leadouts
and general efforts during the race.
The team’s most recent signing is Alejandro Barrajo, a rider for Miche in
2006, who garnered 7 top 10’s in the 2004 Giro di Italia, including 3rd to
Petacchi in stage 6, as well as a 2nd to Eric Zabel in the 2005 Rund um den
Henniger Turm (Germany). His most recent result was winning the 2006 South
American Road Championship this past November.
Returning from the 2006 squad are Brad Viera, Ryan DeWald and Josh Taylor.
Young Gun Brad Viera
Brad is an exciting young rider who is maturing as a pro with
extensive international experience for only being 22 years old. Ryan is a strong
one day racer who boasts a very quick sprint, good climbing ability and excels
in hard, selective races.
Rounding out the team, Josh is a veteran pro, a strong one day racer who
rides well on courses that are constantly changing and is a key part of the
strong leadout team. According to Team Director Jon Wirsing, “This is the ideal
team we assembled on paper off season. We’ve been very fortunate to be able to
get every rider on our wish list. The new signings should provide us a well
rounded attack with a lot of depth. We’re anxious to get to camp and lay the
foundation for our future success. We’re confident that this will be our best
team to date.”
